The short version. Every result on this site is an estimate, not a guarantee. It is based on a simplified model and on figures from manufacturers, retailers and reviewers that may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Before you buy or use any treadmill, measure your space yourself, confirm the deck height and the minimum ceiling clearance with the manufacturer, and follow the manufacturer's installation and safety instructions. Using exercise equipment carries a risk of injury.
1. Who we are and agreeing to these terms
Treadmill Headroom (treadmillheadroom.co.uk) is run by Lanternfish Media ("we", "us", "our"). These terms apply to the ceiling height checker, the guides and everything else on this site. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
2. Results are estimates, not guarantees
The checker estimates the headroom you would have on a treadmill from the measurements you enter and a set of general assumptions: shoe height, how far your head rises while you walk or run, how far a deck lifts at incline, and a safety margin. Real treadmills, rooms and people vary. Deck heights change between model years, ceilings and floors are rarely perfectly level, and nobody moves exactly the same way every stride.
Words such as "should fit", "likely to fit", "tight fit" and "won't fit" describe the estimate only. They are not a promise that a treadmill will fit your space, that it will be safe for you or anyone else to use there, or that any figure on this site is correct.
3. Your responsibilities before you buy or use a treadmill
It is your decision whether a treadmill is suitable and safe for your space and for everyone who will use it. Before you buy or use one, you should:
- measure your ceiling yourself, to the lowest point above the whole deck, including beams, pendant lights, smoke alarms and sloping loft ceilings;
- confirm the deck height, the deck height at maximum incline and the minimum ceiling clearance with the manufacturer for the exact model you are buying;
- follow the manufacturer's installation, clearance and safety instructions. Where they differ from anything on this site, the manufacturer's instructions apply;
- never place a treadmill under a ceiling fan or anything that moves or hangs;
- ask a builder or structural engineer whether a loft or upper floor can safely carry the treadmill and its users;
- talk to your GP before you start or change an exercise programme;
- keep children and pets away from treadmills, and follow the manufacturer's guidance on supervision and safety keys.
4. Not professional advice
We are not engineers, architects, builders, doctors or fitness professionals, and nothing on this site is professional, safety, structural or medical advice. The site is general information only.
5. Our content and its accuracy
We try to keep the information on this site accurate and up to date, but we don't promise that it is accurate, complete or current, or that the site will always be available or free of errors. The site and its content are provided free of charge, as they are.
6. Our liability to you
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to exclude or limit. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Subject to that, and as far as the law allows:
- we are not responsible for any loss or damage that results from relying on an estimate from this site without carrying out the checks in section 3;
- we are not responsible for the cost of returning, restocking, replacing or altering any product or room;
- we are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you used the site, or for any business losses;
- our total liability to you for all claims connected with the site is limited to £50.
7. Buying from retailers and manufacturers
We don't sell anything. Any purchase you make is between you and the retailer or manufacturer, on their terms, including their prices, delivery, returns and warranties. Check the returns policy before you buy, in case the treadmill doesn't fit or doesn't suit you. Online purchases usually come with a statutory right to cancel, but large items can carry collection charges. Prices and availability shown here change often; the retailer's page is always the one that counts.
8. Affiliate links
This site is reader-supported. Retailer links are affiliate links: if you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Commissions do not change how the checker ranks treadmills.
9. Other websites and trademarks
Links to other websites are provided for convenience. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, products or policies. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any manufacturer or retailer named on this site. Product and brand names are the trademarks of their owners and are used only to identify the products.
10. Changes and general terms
We may update these terms at any time by posting a new version on this page, with a new effective date. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
